RefME On the Road With Boris Johnson

City Hall

It’s not every day you get an offer you can’t refuse, yet when we got asked to visit one of the word’s greatest tech hubs with none other than London Mayor Boris Johnson MP, we said yes!

RefME will be joining an elite group of high-growth EdTech startups on a London and Partners and EdTech UK mission to Israel on November 9th. The trip will explore synergies between London’s Tech City and the thriving Tel Aviv technology and startup scene. It will also showcase the innovation and opportunities in the emerging EdTech sector, which is estimated to be worth over £45 billion in 2015.

It is not the first time that RefME has been chosen to represent the best of what the UK and London have to offer in terms of technology innovation and growth. Last year our Co-founder Ian Forshew went on a similar mission to the US. Since then RefME went on to win the EdTech 20 and Bully Awards and be nominated to a host of others, including the Global EdTech Awards, the winner of which will be announced during the mission by Boris Johnson himself.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson MP said: “This trade mission is a fantastic chance to promote London as a thriving tech city and an opportunity to encourage lasting partnerships with some of Israel’s most innovative and creative minds. I want to shine a light on London’s home grown tech talent and strengthen our ties with this part of the world.”

Our CEO and Co-founder Tom Hatton will also be participating in a panel at Google Campus Tel Aviv to discuss how London fosters this growth and innovation and talk about the journey that saw RefME adding over 1m users in the last year with a further 15 million forecast for the next 18 months.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be part of this mission,” says Tom “and I think that RefME is in a very good position to demonstrate how a London technology company can compete on the global stage. Over 400 million students around the world have to validate and reference their work, and we’re helping them cite anything in a click through our technologies. RefME’ goal is to connect the world’s knowledge by mapping out citation data firstly in academia, then in the enterprise market beyond education.”
